A unique program sponsored by the city of Phoenix pairs youth ages 13-17 in the Sunnyslope area with senior citizens at the Sunnyslope Senior Center during spring break, March 20-24.
Participating youth will attend an orientation beginning at 11 a.m. on March 20, where they will learn how to interact with seniors; and learn about the various disabilities seniors may have. This will be followed by two activities with seniors from the center. The program is approximately one hour daily and ends at 1:30 p.m., except Friday, which ends at 2:30 p.m.
Every day, the participating teens will engage in interactive team-building activities with senior members of the facility. Youth and seniors will work together to create tangible art projects and at the end, the youth will implement a community showcase event for the community to view the project created.
Both youth and seniors will earn community service hours for participating in the program. Interested youth and seniors can register by calling 602-262-7572 or in person at the Sunnyslope Community/Senior Center front desk, 802 E. Vogel Ave.
