Goodwill of Central Arizona recently honored longtime supporter Dennis E. (Denny) Mitchem with a dedication ceremony of the Strategy Room, now named in his honor at the corporate office, located at 2626 W. Beryl Ave. The ceremony took place on Aug. 20.
“Denny has been an integral part of Goodwill of Central Arizona for more than 50 years,” said Tim O’Neal, CEO of Goodwill. “Starting in 1959, he helped raise capital for our very first headquarters, located on 16th street in Phoenix. He has been instrumental in moving this organization forward ever since. The Dennis (Denny) E. Mitchem Strategy Room will always remind us of his devotion to helping others and the service of every Goodwill of Central Arizona board member.”
Mitchem, who currently lives at the Beatitudes Campus in North Central Phoenix, spent 12 years serving on the board of directors, and through his support and vision, Goodwill continues to help thousands of Arizonans each year in its quest for family-sustaining employment.
Chairman of the Board, Dr. Ed Oxford added, “Denny’s commitment to service is evident through his extensive resume of giving and volunteering. He served on numerous boards and committees with various nonprofit organizations throughout Arizona. Denny’s profound insight made a tremendous impact on both our organization and the people of Arizona.”
Mitchem’s support of Goodwill goes beyond the hours he spends lending his council and includes numerous donations as well as a scholarship fund of $100,000 established through Maricopa Community Colleges. This scholarship includes a stipulation that Goodwill clients be given the first opportunity to receive financial support.
